CANADA: A FRIEND AND ALLY THROUGHOUT HISTORY
Just a reminder to those who may have forgotten:
Over the years, Canada's hand of friendship and support to its neighbors, particularly the United States, has been consistently stretched out in times of crisis and conflict.
This testament of unwavering friendship is evident in Canada's active participation in major global events, where it lent its resources to the cause of peace and security.
During World War I and II, Canada solidified its image as a nation ready to make necessary sacrifices for the common good. Though these monumental events brought untold suffering, they highlighted Canada's fierce resolve to stand with its allies including the US.
In the Korean War, this sense of allied responsibility continued. Canada stepped in to support the international coalition orchestrated by the U.S., providing naval, air, and medical support during the Gulf War.
This showed not only its participation in these conflict-ridden times but also its commitment to providing much-needed support and relief.
Among these historical markers, the Canadian Caper during the Iran hostage crisis in 1979 represents a particularly heroic act of cooperation and strategic planning between the Canadian Ambassador, Ken Taylor, his staff, and the CIA, led by Tony Mendez.
This daring rescue mission, complete with fake identities and an elaborate cover story about a film crew scouting locations for a movie, culminated in the successful escape of six American diplomats from Iran. (there was a movie made of this event)
Another notable instance of Canadian goodwill was during Operation Yellow Ribbon, which transpired after the tragic 9/11 attacks in the US.
Canada stepped up to the challenge, providing a safe refuge to thousands of passengers from diverted U.S. and international flights.
This operation demonstrated Canada's immediate reaction to help and support in one of America's most critical times. (There was a Broadway Play-"Come from Away")
While the U.S. has the right to impose tariffs under certain conditions, the fairness of these tariffs is disputed due to disagreements over trade balances and the potential for significant economic harm to both countries
To sum it up, Canada's track record of being a reliable Friend and Ally is deeply interwoven into its history.
Its contributions towards peace, security, and mutual cooperation in the face of adversity make it a deserving model of commendable global behaviour and it is nothing short of an INSULT for President Trump and his administration to now impose these "UNFAIR, NOT-SUPPORTED BY FACTS" Tariffs!
